COLOSTRUM
DESCRIPTION : First Milk Colostrum is a pure and natural product resulting from collecting and drying (under strict government regulated protocols) the milk obtained within the first six hours after birth of a calf. Our colostrum is collected from selected herds in six states and control processed to meet all good manufacturing practices (GMP) of the USDA for a biological ingredient. Colostrum is made during the last two months of pregnancy, during which time the cow stops lactating and initiates the biochemical processes which result in the super concentrated nectar for the new animal it is soon ready to give birth to. The cow produces more than required, and it is this overflow that we harvest.
BIOCHEMISTRY & PHYSIOLOGY : Colostrum is rich in protein, specifically immune proteins classed as immunoglobulins (IGG, IGA IGM), which provide the newborn, or those using colostrum, with these basic components of the immune system. In the case of the newborn, their immune system is not yet fully functioning and colostrum sourced antibodies are essentially required to "kick start" their immune systems to ward off and defend against infections/ antigens (bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.).
