BETA SITOSTEROL
DESCRIPTION : This product contains 100% vegetable-derived phytosterols, mainly Beta-Sitosterol with campesterol and stigmasterol. The product is derived by a special de-oiling process and is a concentration of the unsaponi-fiables found in vegetable sources.
BIOCHEMISTRY : Chemically, phytosterols are vegetable analogues of cholesterol. Phytosterols are found in a variety of vegetables, including grains, nuts, seeds, and fruit.
PHYSIOLOGY : Research has shown that phytosterols interfere with cholesterol absorption and thus prevent the rise in serum cholesterol. Clinical trials with humans showed that eating phytosterols reduced serum cholesterol levels. Phytosterols in addition reduce serum cholesterol by possibly inhibiting the intestinal reabsorption of circulating cholesterol.
INDICATIONS : This product may be used in diets with above average intake of phytosterols including beta-sitosterol and campesterol. The material can be used in food supplements or in food preparations. Studies have shown that beta-sitosterol lowers serum cholesterol levels. In addition, research has shown reduction in colon carcinogenesis in animals taking beta-sitosterol.
