Yeast infection
A yeast infection occurs when a fungus overgrows and infects the
vagina. Most of the fungi that cause yeast infections are parts of a
woman's natural flora, so most women will suffer from a yeast infection
at one time or another. Common symptoms of yeast infections include
severe itching, large amounts of white discharge from the vagina, and
soreness and redness around the vagina. There are many factors that can
contribute to the onset of a yeast infection. These include pregnancy,
the use of oral contraceptives or IUDs, diabetes, treatment with
antibiotics, nutritional deficiencies, and poor hygiene.
