doctors.
Pneumonia
Pneumonia is a lung infection that can be caused by protozoa, fungi,
viruses or bacteria. Tiny air sacks in the lungs become infected and
fill with mucus. Symptoms of this problem include high fever, chills,
cough, muscle aches, fatigue and a sore throat. Typically a cold or bout
with influenza may lead to pneumonia, but other factors contribute as
well. Young children and the elderly are at highest risk. Those with
weakened immune systems, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke,
kidney failure or malnutrition are also at greater risk. Bacterial
pneumonia is very dangerous because it comes on suddenly and symptoms
can be very serious. Viral pneumonia can be either mild or severe, and
fungal pneumonia is fairly rare.
