doctors.
Fybromyalgia syndrome
This syndrome is characterized by a chronic muscular pain that
usually affects the lower back, shoulders, neck, back of head, upper
chest and thighs, although it can affect other areas of the body as
well. While the pain can be very great, there seems to be no proven
physical cause. Other symptoms of this syndrome may include pain in the
morning, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, premenstrual syndrome,
anxiety, sensitive skin, dizziness, and impaired coordination.
However, the most distinctive symptom of fibromyalgia is the
"nine points of tenderness." These include pain in the lower
vertebrae of the neck, at the insertion of the second rib, around the
upper part of the thigh-bone, in the middle of the knee joint, in the
muscles connected to the base of the skull, in the muscles of the neck
and upper back, in the muscles of the middle back, on the side of the
elbow, and in the upper and outer muscles of the buttock. The causes of
this syndrome are unknown. Some research suggests, however, that a
depressed immune system may play a factor.
Vitamins
Vitamin A has powerful antioxidant qualities that make it a powerful free
radical destroyer.
Vitamin
E may have a positive effect upon immune function.
Vitamin
C may help to boost energy levels.
Other Considerations
Unfortunately common pain relievers are not always effective in
treating the pain of fibromyalgia. Diet, exercise and nutritional
supplements may be far more useful.
