The following statements are not intending to replace your physician's treatments.  Any serious illness should always consult with your doctors.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is caused by the inflammation of the breathing tubes leading directly into the lungs, and it is one of the most common ailments seen by doctors today. This inflammation may occur because of a buildup of mucous. Symptoms of bronchitis include coughing, pain in the chest, fever, fatigue and difficulty breathing. Acute bronchitis is caused by an infection and typically follows a cold or flu. Sufferers from acute bronchitis usually recover in a few weeks, but occasionally the bronchitis may become pneumonia. Clinical trials indicate that antibiotics do not aid recovery from acute bronchitis.
Chronic bronchitis occurs because of a constant irritation in the lungs, which may occur from cigarette smoke, fumes, or allergies. Chronic bronchitis may cause the heart to work harder to compensate for lack of oxygen.

How Alternative Medicine may potentially help?

There are many nutrients that may help improve breathing and circulation. Other nutrients may have antibiotic properties that will help fight the infection causing bronchitis.

Herbs
bulletBromelain (proteolytic enzyme from pineapple) has been shown effective in upper respiratory ailments, via its ability to suppress coughs, and to enhance lung function by thinning mucous secretions.
bulletLobelia, licorice, wild cherry bark, horehound, and guaifenesin (a common herbal extract in non-prescription cough syrups) are good expectorants.
bulletEchinacea may provide immune support.

Vitamins
bulletVitamin C is a primary antioxidant in the lungs, boosts white cell activity, and one study showed it effective against acute bronchitis and pneumonia in elderly patients.
bulletVitamin A is important to immunity.

Minerals
bulletZinc lozenges may be helpful, based on clinical trials of efficacy against colds.
