Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorder is a common psychiatric problem that can effect people of all ages. Symptoms of the disorder can be acute, as in panic attacks, or chronic, with a milder and more generalized feeling of anxiety. Panic attacks occur when the body reacts with a "fight or flight" reflex at the wrong time. This is an involuntary response which can be caused by feeling of isolation stress and internal conflict. Elevated blood levels of lactic acid are a common factor in anxiety attacks.
Acute anxiety attacks can last from a few minutes to 2 hours or longer and produce rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath and hyperventilation. The symptoms of chronic anxiety are more subtle and may even go unnoticed. There may be a vague sense of anxiety and symptoms may include headaches and mild nausea.
